Together, we’re leading our community to outstanding health.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) has served Wilmington and the surrounding region as a county-owned healthcare system for more than 50 years, providing high-quality care to all in need of its services without local tax support.

Over the years, it has grown from a single hospital to the leading healthcare provider in southeastern North Carolina. With a mission of leading our community to outstanding health, NHRMC has a vision to build a thriving community that serves as a national model for health and wellness.

New Hanover County is equally committed to the health and well-being of the community and recognizes its role in ensuring NHRMC is well-positioned for the future.

On September 16, the Board of Commissioners decided to move forward with exploring options for a potential new model for NHRMC. The vote allows the county to accept proposals from other health systems and get more information to determine how best to secure the future of healthcare in the region.
